MR. SPOCK/LEONARD NIMOY PASSED AWAY

‘Star Trek’ icon Leonard Nimoy dies at 83

"His religious upbringing also influenced the characterization of Spock. The character’s split-fingered salute, he often explained, had been his idea: He based it on the kohanic blessing, a manual approximation of the Hebrew letter shin, which is the first letter in Shaddai, one of the Hebrew names for God." I just heard the news a little while ago.......he grew up in Dorchester, near the Beth El Hebrew school actually and the West End in Boston....je suis trekkie..........i feel as sad as i did when Rod Serling died. NYT.COM has a video with their obituary. I spent some time looking at the over 700 comments on nyt.com and trekkie.net and twitter last night. Amazed at the outpouring of love and grief and sense of loss so many people feel. Apparently we all felt connected to him - even NASA. Check out their website. There is a trekkie in the sandler family as in attended star trek conventions. (Not me) Shirley and I used to watch it together - we loved it. He must have gone to the Woodrow Avenue shul since he lived around the corner from it.

Part human, part Vulcan......how prescient.....as we all are becoming cyborgs now......Ron and I shared our grief and his insight was how fortunate we were of our generation to have a TV show with a positive vision of the future. In the '60's Gene Roddenberry created StarTrek from the perspective that we had solved all our problems here on earth. Chekov, a Russian, Sula, Asian, Uhura, a black woman and of course our hero, part human, part Vulcan, Alien, Mr. Spock were all at the helm of the Starship Enterprise, NCC-1701. No problem with Race anymore. How optimistic .......

Bravely go where no man/one has gone before - LLAP

Beam me up Scotty.....
