PASSOVER 2018

Busy, busy, busy, lots of shopping and making lists. First a trip to the Butcherie to buy Passover holiday kosher kugel and wine. I had a craving for kugel exactly like Bubbe used to make. The Butcherie comes the closest to getting it. I never saw her making kugel. I just ate it: noodle kugel, raison kugel, potato kugel - the hits just keep on coming. I liked everything she made except borscht, but I digress.

My friend and neighbor down the hall, Bette told me her son and his family were going to their father's house in NJ. So we decided to have a Seder. Bette's friend Miriam came, Laurie came, who recently lost her mother and at the last minute, my friend Dorothy decided to come too. I was very pleased.

I was responsible for the chicken soup and the Seder plate. More shopping for produce at Whole Foods on Thursday with Laurie. You can't buy the produce too far in advance that you need for the seder plate - lettuce, horse radish, i.e. bitter herbs and this year, arugula along with parsley. Laurie made fresh salmon with dill and a salad. Bette set the table using her mother's silverware, very shiny, semi-ornate stainless steel. It reminded me of Bubbe's second set of 'Passover' silverware which lived in a wooden box lined with red velvet and only appeared on Passover. Very shiny.  Miriam bought a marble cake for dessert, kosher for Passover. So it was a group effort and turned out really nice.

I went to Kinko's copy and made 4 copies of Roby's Haggadah. I only needed three but I decided to make an extra one. Good thing I did because Dorothy called the day of the Seder asking to come. (I asked her on Tuesday) So all I had to do was make an extra hard boiled egg. I think we used the Maxwell House coffee hagaddah at Bubbe's house which you can still buy on ebay !

April 6th, Friday, Shabbat at sundown:
On the last night of Passover we light the Yahrtzeit candle. Remembering Roby, Shirley, Aunt Ruth and Michael......

LAURIE'S BIRTHDAY

Today is Laurie's birthday. I was inspired by her collages to make her a collage birthday card.

REVOLUTIONARY GUN CONTROL LEADERS

Florida is not disheartened by the pathetic choices made by our lawmakers. We’re simply excited to kick them out and save our own lives. We have more hope now than ever. We have a very clear understanding of who’s with us and who’s against us.

#NEVER AGAIN + FLORIDA LEGISLATURE

What I've learned since the shootings at Margery Stillman Douglas High School. I learned that Florida has the weakest gun control laws in the country. Florida is rabidly pro NRA. Yikes ! I just read this article on Politico:

“There is no shame in the Florida Legislature,” Shaw wrote. “Even in the midst of tragedy, they found time today to punish Delta for standing up to the @NRA. Their hypocrisy and contempt for the citizens & employers of our state knows no bounds. #NeverAgain”  Read it here:
Florida lawmakers punish NRA’s corporate foes.

I saw the students from Stillman Douglas High School sitting in the gallery at the Florida State House when their legislators voted NO on gun control. They yelled SHAME SHAME SHAME at those lawmakers/recipients of NRA campaign contributions who only care about their jobs not the lives of the kids in Florida !

I am going to buy something at Dicks Sporting Goods and support all those companies who have gone against the NRA. They are brave.

UPDATE
Fred Guttenberg lost his daughter to the Florida shooter. He was interviewed by MSNBC speaking out on the above and the shameful lack of the Florida legislature to ACT other than to support the NRA. I repeat, I hope those kids start a Revolution and vote them all OUT. The NRA spent over $54 million dollars in the 2016 election. Our elected officials are bought by the NRA! Horrifying ! Sadly the Parkland high school kids/survivors have to change it - no small feat - I hope they keep up the activism. They will need a lot of support.

The NRA exists to support the GUN INDUSTRY. I will look up how many millions or billions of dollars in assets the Gun Industry made last year. So the bottom line is MONEY is more important than the lives of high school kids or anybody else - Sandy Hook, Columbine, Pulse nightclub, etc., etc. Which way will the country go ? $$$$$$$$
